  29.     This document describes the product enhancements included
  30. in the system update file named ‘MessagePad 120 2.0
  31. (516263)US’.
  32.  
  33.     System Update 2.0 (516263)US is for Apple MessagePad 120
  34. customers in the United States. This version will install
  35. over the following system software versions for MessagePad
  36. 120:
  37.  
  38. • version 2.0 (516205)
  39. • version 2.0 (515264)
  40. • version 2.0 (515299)
  41.  
  42. If this system update is already installed on your
  43. MessagePad, you will not damage your MessagePad by
  44. reinstalling the update.  Also, you will not damage an
  45. original MessagePad, MessagePad 100, MessagePad 110,
  46. MessagePad 130 or other Newton PDA if you attempt to install
  47. this system update by mistake.
  48.  
  49.     Before you install any system update, you should back up
  50. your MessagePad 120 with the Newton Backup Utility or to a
  51. storage PC card (PCMCIA card).
  52.  
  53. New changes in System Update 2.0 (516263):
  54.  
  55. • Fixed a problem introduced in System Update 2.0 (516205)
  56. which could generate an error when connecting over AppleTalk
  57. with some third-party applications.

  59. System Update 2.0 (516263)US contains all the fixes present
  60. in System Update 2.0 (516205).

  70.     Installation Instructions for System Update MessagePad
  71. 120 2.0 (516263)US

  73. Q. How do I install System Update 2.0 (516263)US?
  74.  
  75. A.  BEFORE installing a MessagePad System Update, as
  76. precautionary measure you should backup your information.
  77. You can do this using your computer and the Newton Backup
  78. Utility, or a PCMCIA card. Installing a MessagePad System
  79. Update will not normally erase any information in your
  80. MessagePad.
  81.  
  82. Once you’ve backed up your information, install the
  83. MessagePad System Update following the instructions below.
  84.  
  85. Before you install the System Update (516263), check to see
  86. what system version you currently using. Follow these steps:
  87.  
  88. 1. Connect your MessagePad to your Macintosh.
  89.  
  90. 2. Turn on your computer and your MessagePad 120.
  91.  
  92. 3. On your computer, double-click the Newton Backup Utility
  93. icon to launch the application.
  94.  
  95. 4. On your MessagePad 120, tap Extras to open the Extras
  96. Drawer.
  97.  
  98. 5. Tap the Information button ("i") near the bottom of the
  99. screen.
  100.  
  101. 6. Tap "Memory Info".
  102. * If the ROM version number at the middle of the screen is
  103. not 2.0 (516263)-1 or a higher number you need to install
  104. system update MessagePad 120 2.0(516263)US. Go to step 7.
  105. * If the ROM version number at the middle of the screen is
  106. 2.0 (516263)-1, you already have the current system software
  107. version and you can stop.
  108.  
  109. 7. On your MessagePad 120 tap on Connect. 
  110.  
  111. 8. On your computer, choose Install Package.
  112.  
  113. 9. Select the file "MessagePad 120 2.0 (516263)US". A
  114. message appears saying "New system software is about to be
  115. installed. Please tap Restart."
  116.  
  117. 10. Tap Restart.
  118.  
  119. 11. Wait for your MessagePad 120 to restart (about 3
  120. seconds).
  121.  
  122. 12. Tap Extras to open the Extras Drawer.
  123.  
  124. 13. Tap the Information button ("i") near the bottom of the
  125. screen.
  126.  
  127. 14. Tap Memory info.
  128.  
  129. If the software was installed correctly, the ROM version
  130. number at the middle of the screen should be 2.0 (516263)-1
  131.
